Intro

What is all this, and where’s your resume?

First, here’s my resume as a PDF. And here’s my LinkedIn. And here is the About Me page. But wait… there’s more!

My resume used to be longer and wordier, because it tried to tell stories that really didn’t fit or belong on a resume. That resume wasn’t doing its main job well enough.

The resume got shorter, and the stories became this series of chronological narratives, over two dozen, spanning the first half of my tech career, from early childhood to the present day.

Interviews often include behavioral questions in the hopes of drawing out a revealing tale or two about a candidate. If you really want to understand my behavior, spend some time reading these narratives. I would be honored. You may be enlightened and/or entertained. Maybe you will want to reach out to me.

As you’ll discover from reading these, I practice periodic reinvention. Writing these is part of such a process. During the pandemic, I spent time reflecting on my journey thus far and where I want to head next. I wrote these, built things, and continued to learn at the same time.

Each narrative stands on its own, more or less. Personally, I had no choice but to experience them in chronological order. You may start at the beginning, start at the end, or start in the middle. If you find any of them too long, sorry — that is what the scrollbar is for. I didn’t have that luxury when I was living them!

Some of this is fresh first hand material that might be of interest to those studying the early history of personal computing, or should be. I don’t shy away from being a small part of this history; I am proud of it. If anyone thinks that because I’ve been on the planet long enough to be present at that creation I am in any way unsuited for the next, that says more about them than it does about me.

Here’s the first. Enjoy---
